Maintaining the vehicle is very important not only for safety but also for your professional life. You should inspect your vehicle yourself or pay the mechanic to inspect it.
Here are some common tips to maintain your vehicle:
- Radiator and Cooling System
The radiator and cooling system keeps the temperature of the engine low. When you open the bonnet, it should be the first thing to check. However, you have to wait for the engine to cool. Then, you can open the cap of the radiator; the level of water should be between high and low markings. Moreover, you have to check the following things:
- The water level should be medium.
- None of the pipes linked to the radiator are leaking.
- If the car is losing the coolant too early.
- None of the pipes is soft, swollen, or cracked.
- Engine Oil and Engine
Engine oil should be checked a minimum of once a month. You have to use a clean dipstick in the warm engine. Check the level of oil on the dipstick. Ideally, it should be between high and low markings. However, you have to check it according to your vehicle’s manual.

You should check the tread of the tire according to the tire company manual. According to the general rule, the tread must not be above 1.5 mm. Some people consider that the tires should be changed after every 80,000 miles. However, it depends upon the roads and the way you drive your vehicle.
- Car Battery Condition
The car battery supplies current for the car to start. You have to observe if your car is struggling to start. When it takes time to start, you should test your battery through a multimeter. Its voltage must be above 12.4. Otherwise, it will not provide enough current bits to start your vehicle.
Normally, a battery should be changed after every 10 years. However, it also depends upon the way you drive and how much you drive.
- Headlights, Turn Signals, Brakes
Headlights are crucial, especially when you are going for a long drive. You have to check both their intensity and angle. You can check them during parking or ask a friend to observe when you turn on them. Moreover, you have to turn signals, and side lights are very important. Check them every month for their proper work.
Brakes should not be too tight and too loose. You can check them by pressing the footbrake during the drive. It should not be so spongy that you need to push the pad down to the floor to stop the car. This may be due to the inefficient hydraulic fluid in the braking system.
